Leadership training catering for Putonghua-speaking leaders is not common, but church leaders, Christian business leaders and believers in the marketplace need to catch the role of servant leadership and the teaching on how to set up high-efficiency teams, and lead creatively.
May the Lord provide for Putonghua-speaking leaders more training in leadership, team-building, putting innovation into practice etc., help them be flexible and creative in ministering to believers in families, churches, the marketplace etc.
Pray for China: Teaching and learning affected by the pandemic
Due to the fluctuating pandemic and tightened anti-pandemic measures in various provinces and regions, teachers at theological seminaries are under a heavy burden catching up with missed lessons (especially for the graduating class), conducting make-up lessons on weekends while caring for students emotionally strained by the pandemic.
May the Lord give mercy to the teachers, provide them with wisdom and energy daily, help them experience His sufficient grace. May the Lord also bless the graduating class with wisdom so they can understand their lessons well and lay a strong foundation for their future ministry.
Pray for China: Urgent need for small group leader training
The pandemic in the past 2 years has dealt a blow to the cohesiveness of brothers and sisters. A church partner shared: “Fewer and fewer brothers and sisters are attending church. Even for those present lack the drive to care for one another. It is important to change the situation, and prayers are important. We also need to carry out small group ministry as soon as possible, yet we have faced difficulties in finding suitable group leaders and suitable materials to equip the leaders with.”
May the Lord give wisdom to pastors in selecting leaders with potential for motivating members to strengthen their faith and care for one another. Please pray that churches can find suitable materials for training group leaders, to help them guide members in becoming God-pleasing disciples.
Pray for China: The future of elderly migrant workers
Since the 1990s, a large number of young farmers have flocked to the cities to do construction and other physically challenging work. After 30 years, quite a number are approaching the retirement age. Yet, since many lack social security protection, retiring means losing their income and not being able to afford living in the city. After leaving their village hometowns for years, they may not be used to working in the fields.
May the Lord help retiring workers find less demanding work in the cities, for example as cleaners, security guards etc., to get earnings. If they choose to return to their hometowns, may the Lord provide relatives, friends and believers who will care for and help them adjust to a new life.
Pray for China: Pray for pastoral ministry and teaching under Internet control
Since China’s Measures for the Administration of Internet Religious Information Services took effect in March, some churches in China have stopped the running of existing groups or replaced their names with codes to avoid being held legally responsible. Some theological seminaries that were offering online classes due to the pandemic might be banned from doing so because of the presence of religious words in the lesson materials.
May the Lord give wisdom and ability to pastors and teachers to cope with the changes, that they can continue to minister to congregations and students despite the constraints.
Pray for China: Admitting believers into theological seminaries
Recently, there have been some concerns about seminaries in China: The pandemic has caused quite a number of churches to shrink in size, posing difficulties to theology students with a heart to serve. Also, the rule passed last May regarding Religious Institutions Management has tightened admission requirements, making it more difficult for seminaries to recruit students.
May the Lord bless and open the way for believers who want to pursue theological training; May the Lord also have mercy for churches, so they can mobilise members with financial capability to support those pursuing full-time theological training.
Pray for China: Encouraging believers to resume church life
The fluctuating pandemic situation has led to a drop in the number of congregants and ministries at churches. A preacher in Southcentral shares: “My co-workers are worried that believers will stop coming to church and eventually their faith. Some co-workers are discouraged to see that despite their visits and invitations, the number of congregants has not picked up.”
May the Lord strengthen preachers, give them the strength to carry on and help believers feel the bonding of the family in Christ through their caring acts, and be willing to return to church. May the Lord further increase the faith and strength of believers who have been participating actively in church!
Pray for China: Providing support for tertiary graduates
According to the Ministry of Education, there were 10.76 million tertiary graduates in 2022. The need to strengthen support for employment and entrepreneurship in light of the vast number of graduates was noted in Government reports.
May the Lord help graduates make good plans and preparations for their future, whether in furthering their studies or seeking jobs. May the Lord lead believers in business or marketplace to share their marketplace experiences and values with graduates at church and in the community.
